BUV Communications
The Communications Unit at the BUV is
re-shaping itself every day. Initially starting off as the News Room
for the Baptist Churches in Victoria, it has transformed itself into
the Victorian Baptist Communications Media Centre to help resource
Baptist churches in new and innovative ways.
There have been
obvious changes in the past three years with the redesign, structuring
of stories and content for the Victorian Baptist Witness as well as the
re-branding of the BUV in the past twelve months.
However there
has been a growing realisation for other communication needs within the
BUV such as new technologies encouraging new forms of communication and
applications. New mediums such as DVD promos have been produced
showcasing stories about Baptist churches making a difference in their
communities and re-inventing new forms of church practice. There have
also been the production of DVD promos for the Victorian Baptist
Agencies servicing the Baptist churches and broader community.
The
BUV Communications Unit has also advised and equipped the Regional
Ministers with practically designed resources when workshopping in
churches, as well as helped other BUV Ministries by shaping all
communication applications offered to churches such as brochures,
educational resources and manuals, etc.
The
Communications Unit has grown into a team that develops all BUV
Communications outcomes such as the Witness, BUV website, DVD promos,
BUV Style Guide, printed literature. etc. If your church needs to tell
its story or make use of the communication resources that the BUV
Communications Unit offers, please contact us.

Communications Unit Strategy 2005 - 2006
This
strategy is an overview of the aims and ideals of the BUV. These plans
identify the current climate we are in and the main objectives the BUV
as a whole wants to achieve in order to “share the love of Jesus with
everyone”.
We will be focusing this strategy on profiling the
Baptist Union as a resource for churches to be actively engaged in
mission which is strategic and intentional. Utilising a range of
communication avenues, we hope to profile the BUV effectively and raise
its profile within our Baptist churches. We want to consolidate an
encouraging meaningful and engaging partnership with our churches that
will have sustained and positive effects for the entire community.
1. We will increase the profile and readership of the Witness publication. The
Witness is a publication that not only speaks to our church
constituents but also to the public. It is a great resource, comment
and communication tool for all of our denomination. We have to ensure
the Witnes thrives instead of survives being appealing to all
demographics and utilising it to its greatest potential.
2. We will further develop the BUV website to raise the profile of our union and churches. With
increasing dependency on websites to provide information and
connectivity the BUV must continue to develop this important
communication tool. Sites by nature cannot remain static and need to be
an up to date resource tool for BUV staff, their agencies and external
stakeholders. There are many opportunities that the web offers in
regard to communicating with our constituents and we will develop these
where we can.
3. We will develop a BUV Public Relations Media Support There
is a great deal of information flow that is currently taking a
significant amount of resource from the staff of the Union that is not
reaching its target. Mail-outs continue to go out and still our
constituents are not fully informed of the work of the union. The
development of a Public Relations tool kit will professionally showcase
BUV and rationalize the information flow.
4. We will give the internal staff of the BUV public relations support/assistance. It’s
important to increase the profile of the BUV within our body of Baptist
churches generally and the staff have the opportunity to do this
frequently. The Communications unit has the skills to support staff to
capitalise on the opportunities presented to them and resource them
with ways to promote the relationship of BUV to the Baptist Churches in
Victoria.
5. Communicating the Victorian Baptist Culture and ethos Victorian
Baptist culture can be communicated and owned in a more strategic way
through discussion, forums and other mediums such as www.buv.com.au. We
must allow the BUV to provide its own ‘stamp’ on their communications
and contribute to broader discussions in society.
