CoLT

Darren Cronshaw gives leadership and a coordination role to BUV Leadership Training.

Darren’s imagination is captured by the responsibilities of this role – fostering transformational missional training, networking with training providers, communicating the best quality training options available, cultivating new experiments of church and community engagement, and ensuring a variety of training formats are available. Darren takes a genuine and broad interest in the health and especially the training needs of churches all around Victoria

Ministry background

In addition to teaching and theological qualifications, Darren has had rich and varied experience in pastoral ministry, teaching and cross-cultural mission. He is a gifted teacher and leader, and relates well to people of all ages and backgrounds. He has had youth ministry experience at Bulleen Baptist Church, fruitful interim ministries at Canterbury and Shepparton, a short period of service in Indonesia and a strategic pastoral role at St Kilda-Elsternwick. Most recently he was pastor at Aberfeldie Baptist Church where he led the church through a process of re-visioning, planning for redevelopment and enhancing church health.

College teaching

Darren has taught Evangelism, Leadership, Ethics, Romans, Theology of Everyday Life and Cross-Cultural Ministry at Australian College of Ministries, Bible College of Victoria, Christian Leaders Training College (PNG), Tabor College and Whitley College. He also helps train church planters, pastors transitioning existing churches and mission interns through Forge Mission Training Network. He is most at home as a teacher and coordinator of training, especially in interactive and facilitative environments. Darren's outlines his philosophy of training here.

Research and Writing

Darren has done research and written about leadership, church growth, Celtic spirituality, Islam, tentmaking, ecotourism and Australian history, culture and theology. He recently released his first book Credible Witness: Companions, Prophets, Hosts and Other Australian Mission Models (Melbourne: UNOH, 2006)

He is currently completing a Doctor of Theology through Whitley College into mission and innovation in emerging churches in Melbourne, which has renewed hispassion for creative approaches to church and training.

Family

Darren is married to Jenni, withwhom he shares the privilege of parenting a son Benjamin and two daughters Jessie and Emily. Benjamin loves computers, camping and reading. Jessie loves gymnastics, swimming and jogging with Dad. Emily’s hobbies include painting and bike-riding. Jenni enjoys crafts, reading, coffee and loves being a Mum. Jen seves as a Community Aged Care chaplain with Baptcare

As a family they worship and serve at Eastern Hills Community Church, a fairly recent church plant in Croydon.

Hobbies

For other fun, Darren enjoys jogging, good books and movies, rock-climbing, swimming, writing, hospitality and eating good quality Asian food. (And in the next decade he wants to learn clowning and travel with his family around the world.)
