| BUV is committed to working with local churches to identify and develop leaders for mission in churches and the community.
Through consultation we are convinced that four kinds of training are vital:
- Skills for Leadership - How do I do my local church task?
- Helping people follow Jesus in mission - What is discipleship?
- ‘Formation’ of character is more than skills training
- Breaking new ground – ‘Incubator’ emphasis
This four-pronged approach must include:
- Integrated leadership training, moving beyond felt needs into transformational and adaptive mission.
- Development of Christian character and biblicalliteracy as well as skill development.
- Effective sharing of “what’s on offer” on the training smorgasbord.
- Cultivation of "incubator" communities, with focused recruitment, training and ongoing support.
- A variety of formats for training substance and delivery.
- Coordination of this evolving agenda, with supported links to all parts of BUV life.
These priorities were drafted in 2007 as part of a review of BUV leadership training. The review process led to the creation of the role of Coordinator of Leadership Training (CoLT) and the forming of the Leadership Training Committee (LTC) to stimulate, promote, support and coordinate leadership training in Victorian Baptist churches and ministries.
