Aug 08: Baptcare: Your Legacy To Baptcare Will Touch The Future

In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus invites us to enter into the experience of a new humanity – a humanity expressed beyond tribal limits, self-interest and the self-serving quest for survival. Baptcare’s projects seek to express these gospel values and to ‘bring care to life’ to those in need.
This inspiring Parable is reflected in recent initiatives of Baptcare, the first being ‘Sanctuary’ an asylum seeker project operated in partnership with Brunswick Baptist Church and Hotham Mission. This initiative will provide safe and secure transitional housing for twenty male asylum seekers, many of whom have sought protection in Australia, having fled torture and persecution in their country of origin. These men have no right to work, no access to Medicare benefits and are not entitled to any Centrelink income support.
The second of these programs is the expansion of Home-Start in the Loddon-Mallee region - a program designed to support families with young children by linking them with volunteers who provide informal and friendly encouragement, support and mentoring.
Baptcare is a values focused not for profit organisation that provides high quality care to families, youth, children, those with a disability, the elderly and asylum seekers. It pursues excellence in every aspect of its work, integrating its holistic approach to care for each and every individual regardless of their faith, monetary, cultural or lifestyle background. It is founded on the principles of the Christian faith and upholds the virtues of love, mercy and justice.
Baptcare’s vision for the future is an inspiration to all who are connected with its work. Baptcare embraces change and works towards constant improvement in everything it does. However, it cannot do this without adequate financial resources, which come from the government, residents and clients and, most importantly, from people who leave a bequest to Baptcare in their Will.
A bequest to Baptcare ensures that the values you have held during your life time of Christian faith will be perpetuated for decades to come so that future generations will experience the real meaning of Christian love.
Your legacy is our community’s future.
Mary Quirk is Baptcare’s Bequests Officer. See Baptcare’s Bequests ad in the August Witness (on page 30).
