Recent articles from the Witness – the monthly magazine of the BUV
The
Witness is a Victorian Baptist Churches Magazine that voices discussions
of the life and culture of Baptist churches in Victoria.
The
Witness maintains a partnership with the Victorian Baptist churches
through the communication of local church news and stories which
illuminate the positive, meaningful moments and events within the Baptist community in Victoria.
The Witness also
threads together stories from the wider body of churches and global
issues within Victoria and the international church. It is a
vehicle that facilitates the Baptist Union of Victoria’s objectives to
"share the love of Jesus with everyone".
Each edition of the Witness is themed, and the April edition is 'Women Shaping Our Lives'. You can read snippets from a few sample articles below. For Witness subscription information, contact Rhonda Shaw on (03) 9880 6100 or rhonda.shaw@buv.com.au
From this edition:
"My
perspective of this month's Witness theme - Women Shaping our Future -
is that it frankly boggles the mind that anyone (male or female) should
shy away from, let alone actively oppose, allowing women into
leadership roles in our churches. Talk about falling behind the times
and rendering ourselves completely redundant to society! Women have so
much to give to roles of authority that I haven't got enough room here
to adequately sing their praises. What troubles me is that some people
prefer to discriminate against women doing the Lord's work to the full
extent that men are traditionally privileged to do ... and I can assure
you that the peopel who are most disadvantaged from such close-minded
decisions are those who turn those potential women leaders away!" |
