Church Health & Capacity Building
The aim of the Church Health & Capacity Building team is to promote healthy churches, systems and behaviours across the whole BUV, and to specifically build the capacity of church leadership teams to work in healthy and effective ways so as to enable the churches to devote themselves to mission and ministry.
Meet the Team:
Rev David Devine, Head of Church Health and Capacity Building
David was born in Northern Ireland and grew up in Adelaide. He is married, with two teenage children. After a short career as an accountant in the public sector, David studied Theology through Burleigh College and was ordained as a Baptist Pastor in 1990. Since then he has served as an Associate Pastor (majoring in Youth and Christian Education) in a relatively large contemporary church; solo Pastor of a traditional “turn-around” church and was Senior Pastor of the Rowville Baptist Church for fifteen years. Rowville Baptist is a growing, diverse church with strong community ministries and a culture of volunteerism and empowerment. David is passionate about local churches enjoying vibrant relationship with God, healthy relationships with one another and effective relationships with their communities. He enjoys preaching the Bible, facilitating visionary leadership and encouraging individuals to discern and pursue God’s calling into ministry and mission.

Vasti van Wyk, PA for Head of Church Health and Capacity Building
Vasti (pronounced 'Fusty') was born and raised in South Africa and immigrated to Melbourne in 2001 as a 17 year old. She is married with two fuzzy 'children', a Keeshond dog and a minilop bunny. Vasti studied Design & Graphic Arts and was always covered in paint, charcoal or ink growing up. Her ministry dreams sprouted while studying Year in the Son in '04. She has a passion for working with marginalised youth, which led her to serve as a live-in volunteer Lead Tenant, and later in a volunteer and paid role as Housing Worker for Youth For Christ, working with homeless at-risk young people. To be more equipped, she started a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Youth Work and Counselling at Tabor College and hopes to finish her degree in the near future. She enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, eating clean, working out, camping and mountain biking. Vasti also works at the BUV in another half time role as Communications Support as part of the Communications Team and previously worked as Admin Assistant for Specialist Ministries. She looks forward to empowering Church leaders in their ministry, so that they can be effective in mission.
