Covenant Membership

Many churches are looking for a more practical, relevant form of membership that reflects the true body of people who love and work for the church. Sometimes ‘membership’ is a dead concept, neither inspiring commitment and discipleship nor capturing the actual make-up of the church’s solid core.

In thinking about this problem, the BUV has looked at Baptist history and discovered that in early years, many Baptist communities signed a covenant enshrining their beliefs and commitments. Read these papers and consider whether introducing Covenant Membership might not be a helpful way of re-imagining church membership in your context.
