Prayer is Transformational

A dedicated prayer sanctuary with external access is used regularly at Torquay Christian Fellowship as people seek God’s heart through focused time with Him. Pastor Steve Brown shares how this has transformed individuals and the church.

Prayer has transformed Torquay Christian Fellowship over the last two years. We were called into serious prayer as we went on a pastoral search process after some external intercessors felt that we need to break up some of the hard ground before we called another pastor.

We have always had faith-filled prayer warriors who interceded weekly for our overseas missionaries and the missions within the church.

A few of us had experienced using a prayer room previously on a men’s camp, where we ran it for 48 hours, and discovered most of the highlights from the camp came from people’s personal hour with Jesus. So we wanted to give the same opportunity at church.

We set up a dedicated prayer room up to do a 24/7 prayer week last October – we have a perfect little room that has its own external door that we have been trying to preserve as a prayer sanctuary – and this was all the push we needed. We ended up having the room fully booked for the week! We heard some incredible personal testimonies, and we saw some big miracles occur during that period. It’s given  us a lot of hope, motivation and powerful intimacy with Jesus.

Feedback from those using the prayer room was, “We thought we couldn’t stay for 15 minutes, now we want to keep coming back.” One young person decided they “wanted more” and chose of their own accord to book the room at 5am for five out of seven days because spending time with Jesus was so good.

Now we have three dedicated corporate prayer times each week, plus the prayer sanctuary for any personal prayer!

The personal prayer times have brought great intimacy with Jesus and deep encounters with His love. The corporate prayer times bring unity, wisdom and direction as we discern together God’s heart for what he wants to do in us and our region. We are so thankful for the way God is leading us to Himself.

What I love most about the prayer room is its accessibility to all. Anyone and everyone comes to spend time in the room, from our enthusiastic youth and young adults, to our faith-filled older members who are pillars of our church, to families coming in with their kids who can use the space to draw and express prayers and gratitude to God through art..

People can book hour-long or longer slots whenever they want to. A 24/7 prayer website makes it so easy to book a slot, and because we have an external door it can be used any time of the day or night.

If your Baptist church has a similar dedicated Prayer Room, the BUV Comms Team would love to hear from you, as we share ideas and encourage each other in the Lord’s work.
