Two days in the goldfields for BUV Pastors and spouses.
Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd August 2026

Pastors you are invited to join the BUV’s Director of Mission & Ministries Rev Daniel Bullock on a 2 day walking retreat.

I have written of walking as one of the truest pictures of evangelism I know. But it feeds the soul just as surely as it shares faith: the pace slows, the noise falls away, and the weary find room to breathe. That is what I want to invite you into now.

Something happens out in the bush that does not happen at my desk. My soul has a chance to catch up with the rest of me, and I come home lighter, closer to God, and a little more myself. So this September I am setting aside a couple of days to do exactly that, in the goldfields country around Castlemaine. And it struck me that I am probably not the only one who could do with it. If any of this resonates with you, I would love you to come along and join me on this mini renewal retreat.

This is not a challenge hike and it is not a test of fitness. It is closer to a Sabbath on foot: good tracks, gentle country, long stretches of quiet, and the kind of unhurried conversation that seems to come only when you walk beside someone for a few hours. Come for one day, or make a weekend of it and join me for both. And if you are married feel free to bring your spouse: the load of ministry is carried by households, and so is its renewal”

Details:

Day One, Friday 21 August. We gather in Castlemaine at 9am for a short devotion and prayer, then walk out to the historic Forest Creek diggings and back, around 18 kilometres of gentle, undulating goldfields country. We finish back in town by mid to late afternoon, and those staying overnight can make own arrangements for dinner or gather with others for a more communal meal.  (Option for shorter 10km walk available)

Day Two, Saturday 22 August. We set off from Castlemaine and walk around 18 kilometres of quiet forest and farmland to the beautiful old township of Maldon, arriving early afternoon with time to wander, find a coffee, and let the day settle before we make our way back to Castlemaine together. (Option for shorter 10km walk available)

A few practical notes. Accommodation on the Friday night is self-arranged. Bring a day pack, plenty of water, lunch and snacks, layers for changeable spring weather, sturdy footwear, sun protection, and your Bible. Come for one walk or for both, whatever your week and your legs allow.
