The spiritual disciplines and ministry practices that are generally promoted in discipleship schemes are helpful to the extent that they assist us to embrace and live out relationship with God through Christ and in the Spirit. But let us remember that such disciplines and practices are not ends in themselves. The Christian life is much more than following a developmental process, attaining doctrinal knowledge, complying with a code of conduct, engaging in acts of service, or becoming like a teacher or mentor.
