Sometimes it’s a bush dance, sometimes lawn bowls or a day of mini-railway rides – Pathway Baptist Church (PBC) has been sharing their faith and love for the local community by organising several open social events per year.
The most recent event PBC held at the church was themed, “Around the World”, where approximately 300 congregation and local community members joined in the fun. The church primarily uses word of mouth and personal invitation to spread the word about these events through the local community.
“Around the World” entailed each small group choosing a country to represent, providing a traditional dish, wearing national dress and presenting an item that would be traditionally associated with that country. Nine countries were represented.
Senior Pastor Glenn Koh said the colourful, multicultural event gave everyone a chance to spend time together and form many new relationships. “Each group worked together and played a part in making the event work so well. Ultimately, we run these events to reach out and bless the community in a very gentle way and build connections with people. Over time, many of the people who attend the events come to visit the church. Our social committee tries to organise three to four events per year.”
