The BUV has a strategic commitment to developing churches that are growing in Christlike compassion, inclusion, welcome, generosity and refuge.
We see potential for the Sanctuary Course to advance this strategy through equipping local churches to engage well with mental health issues.
The Course is designed for use in small groups and runs for 8 weeks. You don’t need to know much about mental health to run this course. The materials allow anyone who can facilitate a group to lead the course.
The Sanctuary Course is not therapy nor training in mental health first aid. It simply aims to enable churches to engage in a thoughtful conversation about mental health. The course deals with this from psychological, social and theological perspectives. The group reflect on video stories and share their own stories and insights. The idea is to facilitate discussion about mental health – how it affects people and how individuals and churches might better walk with them.
