Shining a Light Through Prayer

Families gathered to pray for the town of Portarlington, and also to honour the life of 3-year-old Heidi Foote, on May 25 at the Bellarine Kids’ Prayer Adventure organised by Baptist churches The Wave Ocean Grove and Church by the Bay Portarlington.

The event aims to give kids an opportunity to share their faith while connecting with their community and with families from other churches.
Heidi died in a tragic incident in Ocean Grove in April, and this year’s Prayer Adventure acknowledged her legacy as a bright, joyful girl who “loved Jesus with all her heart”.

The Wave Generations Pastor Stuart Jamieson said Portarlington received a flood of Christ’s love as children, their families and friends prayed for businesses and community organisations such as police and fire stations. “Each organisation suggested their own prayer points for the event. It was fantastic seeing kids out in our community getting a heart for the place where we live. Kids’ prayers are powerful, and we think this is going to shift things for the Bellarine Peninsula for God’s kingdom.”
Starting at WG Little Reserve, families followed clues to find key locations around town where they stopped to scan a QR code and pray for the prayer points for each site. Other sites had challenges, fun activities or opportunities to learn creative ways to pray.
The two Baptist churches celebrated Heidi’s legacy by featuring her favourite song, ‘This Little Light of Mine’, and her favourite book, amongst the Prayer Adventure activities.

Around 150 people from five churches in the Bellarine area took part in the event. “ to I think it’s important for kids to know that they’re not by themselves in loving Jesus but there are kids in many other churches as well. God loves church unity, and it’s fantastic if we can build this unity from a young age!”
